Review: 70mai Jump Starter with USB-C Quick Charging
I’m a dad with 3 sons who frequents baseball games and Disneyland a lot. With a family comes lots of electronics from iPhones, Samsung Galaxy’s, GoPro’s, Canon 5D Mark ii’s, Blackmagic Design’s Pocket Cinema Cameras, and much much more. And while I try my best to make sure everything (including my wife’s iPhone) are charged, sometimes I either forget or the device just goes flat. There are a lot of battery backups you can buy but almost all specifically charge electronics only. This is where the 70mai Jump Starter comes into play.
The 70mai Jump Starter comes from the same company that brought us the high quality yet affordable 70mai Dash Cam Lite. Not only does the 70mai Jump Starter offer 11,100 mAh (milliamp hours — or amount of charging time a battery posseses), 600A Peak Current ( 250A Jump Start Current), but also 3 built-in LED light modes to help in emergencies, 5V/2.4A Type-C output to charge your electronic devices, and finally a one step Jump Start system to jump start your car’s dead battery in an emergency. All of this in about the same size as other cell phone battery banks!
The 70mai Jump Starter comes with separate positive and negative terminal attachment that is designed for 12V battery based vehicles with up to 4.0L gas and/or 2.0L diesel engines. One of the biggest features is the ability to withstand extreme weather, when a car battery would most likely break down. The 70mai Jump Starter is certified to work between -20 ° C to 60 °C (-4 °F to 140 °F). There are also 10 protection modes to help avoid any overcharging or discharging while using the 70mai Jump Starter including Short Circuit Protection, Temperature Protection, Overcharge Protection, Reverse Charge Protection, and more.
The 70mai Jump Starter comes with the 70mai Jump Starter itself (measuring about 6" x 3" x 1"), charging cable (USB-A), Smart Battery Clip, Storage Bag, and User Manual. Keep in mind, while the 70mai Jump Starter will charge a phone using Quick Charge if it is capable, the Jump Starter itself takes about 5 hours to fully charge itself. In turn you can get about 3–4 phone charges out of it (when charging typical iPhone or Samsung Galaxy Phones).
What I like most about the 70mai Jump Starter is how easy and dummy-proof it is. When jump starting there is a green light that will illuminate when your connections are correct, red (and a buzzer will sound) when the connections are incorrect, if the green light flickers and buzzes that means the voltage is too low and you need to hit the “Boost” button, wait till the light stays green and then jump start the battery within 30 seconds. Remove the battery clips once jump started and you are done! In an emergency you can turn on the bright light to make sure you are seen. There are three modes: solid light, flash, or SOS.
When not in use the 70mai Jump Starter has a low power consumption meaning it will last quite a while without charging. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check it for months. In addition, 70mai says the battery will last a total of 3–5 years depending on temperature and usage.
In the end, the 70mai Jump Starter is a great battery bank for a little over $50 but with the included easy Jump Start ability it is a phenomenal deal. Not only does it provide peace of mind when traveling on the road, but it can charge a lot of your electronics in a pinch. And like I said earlier if you are at a baseball game or Disneyland and forget to charge your GoPro Hero 8 you will be able to filming within a half hour with its Quick Charge ability.
